FocusArc

Privacy Policy

Last updated: September 20, 2026

Important: FocusArc is designed as a local-first browser extension. This Privacy Policy describes the current implementation and how information is handled by the extension.

1. Who operates FocusArc?

FocusArc is a free public project operated by:

Tharun Muthiyalu Jothir
Karlsruhe, Baden-Württemberg, Germany
Email: focusarcsupport@gmail.com

For the purposes of applicable data-protection law, including the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), the operator may act as the controller for personal data processed in connection with FocusArc.

2. Privacy at a glance

FocusArc is designed to work locally in your browser. The current version does not require you to create a FocusArc account and does not provide cloud synchronization or cloud storage for FocusArc data.

The current version does not intentionally transmit FocusArc's locally stored application data to a FocusArc-operated external server.

3. Information stored locally

FocusArc stores application state in Chrome's local extension storage on the device where the extension is installed.

Depending on the features you use, locally stored information may include:

This information is stored locally in your browser rather than in a FocusArc cloud account.

4. How local information is used

Locally stored information is used to provide FocusArc's features, including:

Blocklist domains are used by the extension to apply browser-side blocking rules during an active focus session or scheduled block.

5. Data transmission and sharing

The current FocusArc build does not have a FocusArc account system, backend, cloud synchronization service, analytics system, telemetry, advertising SDK, or payment system.

FocusArc does not send FocusArc app data, blocklist data, or browsing-related URL or domain data to FocusArc or third parties. The optional Buy Me a Coffee link opens that third-party website only when you choose to use it.

FocusArc does not sell your personal data.

6. Chrome Web Store Limited Use

FocusArc uses information received through Chrome extension APIs only to provide its user-facing focus, progress, and website-blocking features. FocusArc's use of this information complies with the Chrome Web Store User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements.

FocusArc does not use or transfer this information for personalized, re-targeted, or interest-based advertising, and does not allow people to read it except where required to provide support with your consent, to protect against abuse or security issues, or to comply with applicable law.

7. Third-party services

The current version of FocusArc does not intentionally integrate third-party analytics, advertising, telemetry, or payment services into the extension's core functionality.

FocusArc may provide an optional external link to Buy Me a Coffee for users who want to support the project. Donations are voluntary. When you follow that link, you leave FocusArc and interact directly with Buy Me a Coffee; any information you provide there is handled under Buy Me a Coffee's terms and privacy practices. FocusArc does not collect payment details through this website or the extension.

FocusArc is distributed through the Chrome Web Store and operates using Chrome's extension platform and APIs. Chrome and Google may process information independently of FocusArc under their own terms and privacy policies.

8. Browser permissions

FocusArc requests Chrome permissions needed for its local features: storage for local app state; alarms for timer and schedule timing; notifications and offscreen audio for optional completion alerts; tabs and declarative network request access to redirect sites you choose to block; and context menus for adding a site from a page menu.

9. Website access

FocusArc requests access to all URLs (<all_urls>) because you can choose to block any domain. This permission is used only to apply local blocking rules to the domains that you add to your FocusArc blocklist.

The extension may use Chrome's browser APIs and declarative network request rules to prevent access to websites or domains included in your FocusArc blocklist or otherwise covered by an active blocking session.

When blocking is active, FocusArc compares the domain of open or requested tabs against the blocklist you created. This comparison is performed locally only to apply a block or redirect. FocusArc does not store a browser-history list, build a browsing profile, or send URL or domain information to FocusArc or third parties.

FocusArc does not read page text, form entries, images, audio, video, or other website content in order to provide its blocking feature.

FocusArc does not use this website access to sell, advertise, or build a separate browsing-history profile about you. The current version does not intentionally transmit your browsing history or FocusArc blocklist data to a FocusArc-operated server.

Website access is requested because it is necessary for FocusArc's blocking functionality. The exact behavior may depend on Chrome's extension APIs and security restrictions.

10. How long information is stored

FocusArc does not maintain a remote database of your local application data.

Information stored by the extension generally remains in Chrome's local extension storage until it is changed or deleted by the extension, removed through available settings, or removed as part of uninstalling the extension or otherwise clearing relevant browser data.

Because the data is stored locally, FocusArc cannot provide a cloud recovery service for data that has been deleted or lost from your browser profile.

11. Your choices and rights

You can change your FocusArc settings, goals, rewards, preferences, scheduled blocks, and blocklist through the extension's available controls.

You can also uninstall FocusArc from Chrome. Depending on Chrome's handling of extension storage, uninstalling the extension may remove locally stored extension data.

Where the GDPR or other applicable data-protection law applies, you may have rights including the right to request access to personal data, rectification, erasure, restriction of processing, objection to certain processing, and data portability, subject to applicable legal conditions and exceptions.

If processing is based on consent, you may withdraw that consent at any time. Withdrawal does not affect the lawfulness of processing carried out before the withdrawal.

12. Privacy requests

If you have a privacy question or wish to exercise an applicable data protection right, contact:

focusarcsupport@gmail.com

Please provide enough information for your request to be understood and handled appropriately. Where legally permitted, additional information may be requested to verify the identity of the person making a request.

13. Right to lodge a complaint

If you believe that your personal data is being processed in violation of applicable data-protection law, you may have the right to lodge a complaint with a competent data-protection supervisory authority.

In Germany, the competent supervisory authority may depend on the circumstances of the processing and the responsible authority's jurisdiction.

14. Children's privacy

FocusArc does not currently impose a specific minimum age requirement for use of the extension.

FocusArc does not intentionally collect personal information from children through an online account or cloud service. Because FocusArc operates locally, parents or guardians should consider the browser and device environment in which the extension is used.

15. Changes to this Privacy Policy

This Privacy Policy may be updated when FocusArc's functionality, technical implementation, or legal requirements change.

The "Last updated" date at the top of this page indicates when this policy was most recently revised.
